Opening and Closing Doors

A funny thing happens in life. When one door closes we usually feel shaken up by it and often fail to see the thousands of other doors that are now open because this particular one closed. Today I talk about how to use the shutting of a door to break free from the inside.

Beautiful Bern...I love the visual of a "house with a thousand doors", I am ready to close a door or two to allow for hundreds of other possibilities to open up.

Right on. And yes, the goal is to have the immediate response to be in the 3rd step. Something I've been able to move into more quickly for all aspects of my life. But at times it's still not quite what I go to immediately: it always works for me... except when it doesn't. LOL

As far as the victim mentality, that was a major if not the most important moment of clarity in my life. Defeated and emotionally, spiritually, and physically bankrupt I was at a moment where I had to choose. Choose whether life was something to live or be endured and whether or not I wanted to endure it any longer.

But acceptance and surrender can be difficult. For if we're not a victim, then we're responsible. And if we're responsible, we're also responsible for our crappy lives. Which means we have to do something about it. A tough realization and it means hard work. But a victim is a spectator in their own life.

It's humbling, overwhelming, and depressing to realize that I AM the problem. But at the same time the most empowering thing in the world. For if I AM the problem, I now have access to the solution. As long as I'm blaming others, the possibility of getting into the solution is greatly reduced if not unavailable altogether.

The victim mentality is also very narcissistic. My perspective today is that things happen "around" me, not "to" me.

I came across your content via your interview on BlogCastFM. I find your root values and outlook very similar and completely inline with my own. In your responses to things like negative comments and getting to a place of love for all things and beings, is exactly where I'm at in my own journey. To only give and receive love. To allow the universe and my creator to take me to where I'm supposed to be, as opposed to just where I've ended up (perspective). And that involves learning the truth about myself and my purpose. And as with you, I believe that is to be of service.

You also mentioned in the interview something (among many things ;-) that I write about and share with others often. Becoming emotionally unattached to the outcome of situations (experiences, relationships, etc.) If we're coming from a place of true altruism and love for self and others, the outcome does not matter. It's a difficult place to get to but certainly possible. And that this un-attachment should not caring less. In essence it's quite the opposite. As in I don't care what happens because I love you and myself and that cannot change; regardless of the circumstances or outcome.

All of this arrives when it's time. Or more precisely when I'm open to it. The catalyst that started the search for me, as mentioned earlier through desperation, began on March 12 2006. One of the most amazing things that came out of this was not only my relationship with myself, but with all things.

I was able to change my perspective and in the process the relationship with my father; who passed away suddenly in July of 2010. And although tragic, I was also able to see the beauty in it.
